While the rest of us were tucked away, full of turkey, Animal Rescue Corps was called out to my home state.  On the other side of Nashville, firefighters were called to the scene of a brush fire, and discovered a pitbull fighting ring.

I am pleased to say that these dogs are now housed in my home county (the county where I am originally from and still work) and volunteers are working with them to find rescues and fosters and our county mayor and various individuals have visited and are encouraging assistance for these animals.  It breaks my heart that these atrocities continue to exist.  If there is one thing that I am proud of, it is that the people involved in the rescue and care of these animals are committed to their rehabilitation and rehoming, despite the fact that they were bred and conditioned to fight, and many WERE fought.  All too often "rescuers" and shelters just put them down without the chance of ever being loved and treated as a pet.

Every day I hug Izzy and am so grateful for the love, devotion, and sheer joy she has brought into our lives.

I saw this on FB the other day!  Imagine if those firefighters hadn't come!

I'm glad the dogs are now safe!
